This service is provided in accordance with the U.S. Departmental Order 556-73 under the regulatory authority of 28CFR16.30-34. This regulation allows individuals to obtain their FBI criminal identification record upon request, for review and correction purposes, to challenge information, or for court-related matters. A personal FBI report may also be used to meet requirements for residence or work in a foreign country, travel, or legal procedures, such as the adoption of a child.

* Although it normally takes less than 24 hours for us to receive the FBI Report from the FBI, on rare occasions it may take longer.

FBI regulations require that:

• National Background Information may only process requests for citizens of the U.S. or those who have permanent residence in the U.S. (i.e. green card holder).
• National Background Information cannot process requests for US Immigration, employment, or licensing purposes within the United States. Any such requests should be made to the appropriate state bureau.
